Berat, UNESCO site
The 2400-year-old city of Berat, which has survived various periods of history, carries a rich cultural heritage which is a mix of the local one and of various others such as the Roman, Byzantine, Slavic, or Turkish culture.

Present evidence is found everywhere; on the streets, sidewalks, walls, logs, posters of cult objects and also on immaterial cultural property. In Berat, we can find the two codices (the Purple Codex VI century and the Golden Codex IX century which are part of the UNESCO Register “Memory of the World“) of a great national value as well as of a universal value; they are fanatically preserved: Also, the Epitaph of Glavinica (1373), which is known for its chronicled and historical values as well as its artisanal work .

Cult objects
Cult objects such as churches, mosques, teqet built-in centuries with different architectural styles, symbols of different religious beliefs represent an added value for cultural tourism. The objects of worship are fragments of different civilizations that have left their mark on this ancient and modern city.
Locals are proud of their centuries-old traditions and agree to some state interventions, always preserving their cultural-historical traditions.
Berat inherits 210 museum objects, of which 150 are standing objects. Of these, 60 of them are of the first or second category and can be visited by you during your stay in the city.
Cult monuments also occupy an important place in our cultural heritage. They consist mainly of churches, mosques, and masjids.
The oldest churches belong to the 12th-13th centuries. They are St. 
Michael’s Church, Church of St. Mary of Vlora and Church of St. Triada. The Church of St. Mary of Vlachern contains frescoes all over the interior which are thankfully well preserved in this church. Saints, Bible scenes, symbols, etc. can be distinguished in it. This church is one of the treasures of architectural heritage and fresco painting in Berat.
As for the primeval mosques we can mention the Red Mosque, the Lead Mosque, the Single Mosque, and the King Mosque. The King Mosque and the Single Mosque have artistic, painting and carving values besides architectural values. Among the Masjids, we mention the Helvetian Masjid which has exceptional architectural, artistic and cultural values. The painting and the carving of the ceiling make it one of the most beautiful historical masjids in Albania.
Traditional cooking in Berat
The historical town of Berat has also a very good kitchen, where a tasty recipe is “Chicken with Rosnica”, made with crumbs and village chicken. Traditional cooking also includes turkey in November and lamb or kid in other months. ” The special thing is not in the recipe of ‘pershesh’ as all the south cooks this specialty, but the way the Beratians cook it makes this recipe unique.
Berat also has some other specific recipes. Like “Anabokshana”, a recipe made with liver, rice, and spices. Our unique cakes made only in Berat, “White Mountain”, or as tourists baptized, “Mont Blanc”. You can enjoy all these recipes only in Berat. Nowhere else. Just look for the characteristic dishes and we assure you that their taste will be unique.
